Mark Dekoda Interview @ RAVE Clothing
Hello Mark, nice to see you again! What's new from you and how are you currently?
Hey First of all, a big thank you for the invitation, I was very pleased. I'm still doing well and I'm still trying to make the best of the current situation. The best way to do this is with a lot of music productions and the expansion of your own know-how in the field of self-marketing. Still, it's getting uncomfortable in the studio and I'm really looking forward to my first cold beer in a backstage.
Since there are currently no gigs taking place, you have a lot of time for your own music. What does a typical day at Mark Dekoda's studio look like?
The first thing I do is listen to my colleagues' new musical works. I have missed that more and more in the last few months without gigs and that may have made me a bit “company blind”. After a strong coffee, I get down to business and I try to convert my ideas into music - which I usually succeed.
What do you value when producing your own tracks? What is your characteristic stylistic device?
Never to sound like anyone else! Of course you can be inspired by others, but it should also remain an inspiration and not a copy. Reinventing the wheel will be difficult, but the secret lies in the attention to detail.
Your fans celebrate your music enthusiastically and even follow you to many gigs across Germany. What's your secret recipe? What distinguishes your fans?
I don't have a secret recipe. In my opinion, there is also no ultimate “master plan” with which someone, viewed from a short distance, can achieve many successes as a producer and DJ. Everything takes time to grow healthily. I am infinitely grateful to my fans for taking this time.
What message would you like to leave your fans?
Not a message but love.
You recently got your own fan box for your new album Between Reality And Darkness brought out with us. How did your fans like it?
... of which I'm still particularly proud and, after this overwhelming feedback, probably every one of my fans too. With RAVE Clothing I was able to realize the whole thing smoothly and I am still happy about every single box sold.
What do you like best about techno music? What do you love about it?
Techno is not just a piece of music, it's a way of life! The culture and everything related to it has always fascinated me. Be it to feel the first rays of sunshine after a long club evening or just to close your eyes to enjoy the beat. Music in general is something wonderful, my great love is and will always be techno.
What was the best gig you played and why?
Every gig is something special to me. Whether I play in front of 100 people at an after-hour or in front of 10.000 people at a festival. My goal is always the same: to share my music with the people present and to go on a musical journey together.
What can we expect from you in the foreseeable future?
If you are referring to my upcoming tracks, then I would like to highlight two tracks in particular: “Endless Thoughts” with Klanglos ft. Ellen Lia and “Scars of Fear” with my brother Droplex. Both numbers are in the starting blocks and as the titles suggest, they contain lyrical compositions with German texts.
Thank you, Mark. We are really looking forward to your new tracks and hope that we will see many more cool techno gigs from you in the future. Bye for now!
