Vanessa Sukowski Interview @ RAVE Clothing
Hello Vanessa, I am pleased that you have time to do this interview with us. How are you currently and how are you getting through the time?
It would be completely weird to say that everything is great because it isn't. I just keep going, making music and trying not to lose focus until things have changed for the better. I am not giving up hope even as we are all currently being put to the test.
You currently spend a lot of time in the studio. What does a typical studio day look like for you?
Ordinary everyday life has shaken up quite a bit as a result of the pandemic. Admittedly, it took me some time to get motivated again. It is now working quite well again. However, there will never be a strict plan for me. I tend to work spontaneously. Exactly defined studio times often create pressure that is rather counterproductive for creativity. However, I also know colleagues who get along very well with it, or who work even better.
How would you characterize your music? What is it that makes it so unique?
Difficult question! Perhaps what makes it unique is that I cannot even describe it in one word. Colorful and unpredictable, sometimes brave - but the main thing is, techno straight from my heart.
You have a lot of fans who follow you on gigs all over Germany. I can imagine how proud that must make you. What does a good relationship with your fans look like for you?
That makes you incredibly proud! Without my fans, I would never have made it this far. The support from my fans and the longstanding support is exactly what keeps us artists afloat in difficult times like these. It makes me happy to know how much my music means to people and they communicate that too. That in turn inspires me to continue and give something back.
What message would you like to leave your fans?
I love you! 🖤
How would you characterize techno and the scene? What is it that makes it so unique?
The techno scene - these are very special people: Generally very tolerant, peaceful, free, informal and social. Nowhere would I feel more comfortable and in better hands than in the field of techno and electronic music. Techno has no rules and no plan and that just suits me.
In the rave scene everyone has had their own story. Which experience is your highlight?
Wow, maybe I could write a book about what I've experienced over the past 8 years. But that is beyond the scope of this! In any case, a lot has happened that has shaped me a lot, especially as a DJ. Nice, but also negative. The beautiful motivates you. The latter teaches you. Nowadays you just can't be naive if you want to get started as a DJ, because it's a long way and still a highly competitive business. Above all, you have to assert yourself as a DJ in the scene. Nobody rolls out the red carpet for you. However, once you set foot in this world, it will be very difficult for you to let go.
Which gig is the absolute number 1 in your memory to this day?
That has always been one of the questions that I probably never want to answer conclusively, because I'm still in the middle of it and at some point we will be able to dance together again. I am sure that there are still many potential "number 1" gigs to come!
What's new from Vanessa Sukowski in 2021?
New tracks, collaborations and some great livestreams. We're just making the best of the situation, right ?!
Thank you very much for your time Vanessa. We are sure that we will hear a lot from you in the future. We're looking forward to it!
